Join Ewan and me on a time-bending journey that starts with bikes, trains, and a surprise reunion—and ends with murals, music, and the creative pulse of Digbeth.
Our day begins early in Coventry, travelling by bike and train to Wolverhampton. Five years after our last visit, we return to Wolverhampton parkrun—but things have changed. The course was being run clockwise for the first time, flipping the familiar into something strange and new. We surprise our friends, the Vidlers, and run the newly-reversed route together through West Park.
West Park, once a racecourse, opened in 1881 as Wolverhampton’s ‘People’s Park’. It hosted the grand Art and Industrial Exhibition of 1902, served as wartime farmland during WWI, and more recently marked the start and finish of the 2022 Commonwealth Games’ cycling time trials.
Post-run, we refuel with breakfast and make the most of the park’s epic playground, before heading back toward Birmingham. But our day’s far from over.
We explore Digbeth, Birmingham’s industrial past reimagined in colour and creativity. Once a centre of manufacturing, it’s now the city’s creative quarter, home to bold street art and buzzing culture. The Custard Factory, former home of Bird’s Custard, is now a hub for artists, tech startups and makers. The walls of Digbeth tell their own stories—thanks to local legends like Gent 48, Annatomix, and the cheeky brilliance of Foka Wolf.

About Ian, Iona and Family
===============================
Each week on this channel Ian (Dad) and Iona share our little adventure experiences, often joined by Ewan (Iona’s older brother) and Ruth (Mum) too.
Our weekends often start with parkrun. Iona is on a non-repeat parkrun tourism streak having now visited over 100 different places since she started parkrunning. But we don’t just do parkun and dash home, we love exploring the area and often use bikes and trains for our travels to keep our carbon footprint low and because it adds to the adventure too. When school holidays arrive, longer adventures are possible with Ewan and Iona both being keen cycle tourists and mountain climbers!
So if you like heading outdoors and your idea of a perfect weekend includes parkrun, climbing a mountain or exploring new places on two wheels then we would love to have you join us on our adventures.
We’d love it if you subscribed so you can follow our journey and hopefully be inspired to get out the door and have your own little adventures. Do like and leave comments on our videos too on questions you might have or ideas for places to explore or adventures to go on.
