What am I doing wrong or do I just need my wife's boyfriend to help me? Been awhile since I installed a tires but I don't remember the first side being hard to get one
700×40 gravelking ss onto dt swiss gravel LN wheels
Don’t try to put the bead over that way. Gets too tight. One side on first, from the outside. Hard to explain. Watch a video somewhere.
And yeah, if you can’t figure it out ask your wife’s boyfriend for help. 😂

What on earth is going on here. You have half mounted on one side and the other half is trying to come in from the opposite direction. Plenty of youtube videos that will show you how to do it properly. It seems impossible at first but with the right technique you can do it by hand without any tools

If you tried your best and already learned from youtube but no go then here’s another trick you can use: Soak the tires on hot water until it gets hot. The tire will expand due to heated rubber. Then immediately installed on the wheels. It works on my old CORIMA carbon wheel because my wheel center not deep enough to wiggle the tire beads in.

Put the first bead on from one side instead of a rock the rim like that. Sit the tire on the floor, sit the rim behind the tire with the bead in the bottom of the rim then work your way up and around until the first bead is on. Lightly inflate the tube and work it up not the cavity then do the same process with the second bead. Careful to not pinch the tube.
Get the wheel completely inside the tire first. Put the bottom of the rim inside the tire, Then gradually get the rest of tire to wrap outside of the rest of the rim.
After this the tire beads will lay outside of each side of the rim. Then start ticking in one side of the tire.

Bead needs to be in the center of the rim. That’s it.

I just had the same issue with gravelkings and couldn’t get the first bead on as well. I tried just about every technique and method i could find online without any luck. I ended up getting them installed really easily in about 10 minutes by using a koolstop tire jack. Relatively cheap and well worth having for tight tire and rim combos.
Watch my GOAT and create space, you never have to use tools as long as you pinch and create some space.

First rule of seating tires: start at the valve and work your way around from there. The valve is always the hardest area to seat due to the extra rubber in the tube right there.

Just installed GP 5000s tubeless on the rear tire this afternoon — took about an hour. Had to use zip ties to keep it from unraveling and some tire levers to wrestle it on. Total pain! When I tackle the front later this week, I’m soaking the tire in hot water for five minutes first. I hear it makes them more pliable and way easier to work with.

Leave it out in the sun for about 10-15 minutes makes the rubber a little softer and mailable. Had the same issue with my last set of continentals

Panaracer tires in this size can be VERY tight. But man oh man is it nice once they’re on. No burping. Minimal loss of air in between day rides. Higher than average PSI for tubeless ratings.

Take them off and restart. I used to struggle with it as well, but now I can for Gatorskins with bare hands, no levers:
– Go through the tyre a few times stretching it in your hands every 10 cm or so before start
– When fitting, make sure the opposite bead sits in middle of rim (it’s smaller, so more slack)
– Towards the end of fitting, when it starts getting hard, go back to starting point, grip the tyre with both palms (like holding a stick), and try to work it work inch by inch towards the gap. Your hands will hurt from strain. If done right, the tyre will start to sort wrinkle

Put the bead on the same side you start on
Your wife’s boyfriend? Wait a minute…

Use the rope trick & soap
Just use the lever to get it on. GravelKings should be super easy to mount.
I’m taking “been awhile” to mean you haven’t put a tire on since the advent of tubeless rims. Tires are a much snugger fit these days.
He’s having trouble putting the first bead on, I don’t know why so many people here can’t see that lol
I had this happen with a pair of WTB tires, they were an absolute nightmare to even get one side on. Likely an issue with production tolerances
You can use a tire lever and hook it on the rim under the tire that’s not on yet and just kind of wrench in over. Be careful not to scratch up the rim
