Just a PSA! There is a [wear indicator/replacement reference line](https://www.cyclistshub.com/when-to-replace-cycling-cleats/) on Shimano SPD-SL cleats. If the front cleat does not have the yellow (blue and red as well) marking and is black it needs to be replaced. There is also a secondary indicator at the back of the cleat (its kind of in the groove-ish) that is a black line/divot, if you can’t see that line/divot then its time to replace them.
OP, it looks like both of these indicators are gone lol so you were right to replace them

I JUST had to do the same thing. Mine were smoked. New ones were so solid feeling!
