Hey I just got this bike so I didn't have to run around after my son in the park. Pretty cheap it has a few scuffs.
But Its not like any bike I ever had when I was a kid.
The gears you have to kind of pump with 2 controls on either side and and it's got this weird shock absorber thing that you can adjust on the front.
I'm just wondering what I've bought? What is it for? Is it actually for mountain biking? It has these handle bars that are like bulls horns to lean on I kind of associate those with road bikes?
I don't know what I'm talking about, please help.

I think I had that same bike in 1998! It’ll be great for its intended purpose of chasing your kid around.

This is a Specialized Rockhopper from the late 90s/early 00s if I had to guess. I’m guessing that’s also an aluminum frame. Those bar ends are useful when climbing.
It’s a rather lovely 1999 A1 FS Comp.
You bought a mountain bike that someone wanted to ride as an hybrid if i would guess, ( riding trails, get around in town, longer ride) . Front suspension is nice for trail and tree trunk / will be easier on the wrist too on the long run/ over all, the ” horn ” thing is jus for a better position for longer rider /more comfy for some people
