A 30 mile drive out to West Yorkshire, to RSPB St Aidan’s which was once the home of open cast mining. Taking the disused railway known as The Linesway past Great Preston and on to Garforth. We headed west cross country and then on to Temple Newsam. We had a lovely coffee on the canal by Leeds Armouries. A very picturesque place to stop for a break before the return leg via the TPT We enjoyed riding on the banks of the River Aire and the Aire and Calder Navigation back to St Aidans. On approaching this once working open cast mine we saw the old work horse itself called Oddball. To stand next to it and marvel at its greatness was in itself a maginicant experience.
