So i've been riding this used bike for a few months and i have never ridden a bike before. Few days ago the long chain lock fell out the rear basket and landed inside the rear wheel while i'm driving and broke this so called sprocket. I bought a replacement and some everyday bike repair tools and decided to repair it myself. I managed to seperate the rear wheel but now i can't get this overlying thingy off the broken sprocket no matter which tool i use, therefore i can not reach the broken sprocket to replace it. Is there something i'm missing or is there a special tool which i need to buy specifically for the removal of this part? If so, could you guys please name the tool or add a picture of it? And please tell me how to do it

You need to pry that retaining ring off that holds it in place. They are stiff and tend to slip sometimes so go easy.
To get the sprocket off you need to pry open the lock ring with a flat head screwdriver. Im sure you can fint a YT video on how to do it. I recommend wearing gloves. Its an operation the requires quite some effort and its prone to slip.
There should be a split in the round retainer ring. Use a flat screwdriver and gently pry it off the hub. The cut out you see in the picture is a good place to fit the screwdriver blade.
Do you mean the circular clip?
Circlips are a nuisance to get off (and strong), but they are minimal and strong so they have their benefits. But it’s one of those things that when you get the knack it becomes much easier, suddenly.
Plenty of [videos online](https://youtu.be/x5EU0U-6FXg?si=CooqB0q9O0SxA6av)show different t methods.
