  1. Bike in the background is one I just got for free off my brother. My girlfriend is excited for us to go riding

Check the rubbery bits that degrade or dry rot over time: tires, tubes, rim strips, grips, brake pads, saddle. Put some lube on the chain (not WD-40, that is not lube). If anything feels loose or if it doesn’t shift right or makes weird noises, have a shop check it out.

  3. Clean, replace breakpad with KoolStop Salmon, replace tires and tubes, replace the grips, maybe convert the drive train to 1x 11 speed 11-51 tooth for example with Shimano Cues U6000 or Microshift Advent X or a cheap set of AliExpress like Sensah CRX Groupset. At least replace the chain and lube. Maybe a new saddle like the Giant ErgonContact Saddle.

    Happy rides 😃

  4. I would get rid of that stem extender or whatever the heck is going on up there. A lot of those have been recalled and the ones that haven’t are still sketchy. If you need a taller position get some high rise bars instead. But Overall great buy, go have fun!

If tires and tubes are ok, brake pads IF they are hard. If they are hard and you don’t replace them they’ll wear out the rims quickly.

  6. Holy hell, what is going on with that stem?

That doesn’t look entirely safe. I recommend putting a normal stem back on. If you’re not comfortable doing it yourself find a friend who is, or worst case take it to a bike shop.

Other than that, just get some lube on the chain and go ride it!
