Paywalled article.
I panic bought the bike I’ve been wanting to upgrade to, was trying to go one more year on the pawn shop offbrand Chinesium bike. Now I have the most barebones entry-level name brand bike.
Hopefully it’ll outlast this economy.

But the thing is bike prices are already discounted right now in large part due to people not buying them, which is often due to many already not being able to afford them. (And yes I know Covid surplus is a contributor too.) With everything already being so expensive, plus tariffs raising the prices on everyday essentials even further, i can’t see how these huge price spikes are going to be sustainable because then people really aren’t going to be able to afford them. Bike manufacturers can’t even move the already heavily discounted inventory as it is. It’s going to put a lot of boutique brands out of business.

Might be a good time to sell my shit then.

That then leads me to keep my current bike, and was planning on a new steed this year. Trump just killing the economy!

I for once seem to have bought the dip while building my new bike the past 8 months. Probably my last bike for a long time at this rate.

Bike industry is fucked. It was already fucked before this but now it’s deader than dead.

Yeah, ok, demand as at an all time low, several producers have recently filed for bankruptcy etc.
