Hello, new to MTB, started in December and only have 277 miles under my belt according to my watch so im still new.
Can you please tell me what is causing this scratch behind my chainring. Bike pic for just cause. (yes, reinstalled front tire backwards, like i said, still new)

Chain slap? Chain suck?
It looks like you picked up something in the chainring and it gouged there, that is really strange.
Do you backpedal a lot to get your feet into position? The chain might be sticking to the chainring if it isn’t properly lubricated
Best guess: chain suck? This could happen if the chain stays engaged on the chainring while you’re pedaling and gets dragged across the frame here… it could then “unbind” and the rear derailleur would pull it back into a normal position.
This used to happen all the time on MTBs in the 90s but isn’t something I’ve seen on a modern 1x setup like yours. You’d notice this happening while you pedal. If you have, I’d check for a stiff or bent link in your chain.
Something on your right shoe?
is the clutch of your derailleur activated? i get the same marks when i stop pedalling at high speeds in the highest gear (40+ km/h due to inertia of the big casette) with disabled clutch.
Get a chain guide. I did that to my carbon frame
its when your chain falls off to the inside of your chainring
Wrap it with a few or more layers of electrical tape & it will be good to go. Im guess chain suck/worn chainring?
That is a weird spot to get a gouge. It’s almost like there’s a phantom bigger chainring hitting it.
The moment I saw the first picture I knew what bike it was haha. I got the same, it’s a typical issue with the Meta HT, it’s caused by chain slap, now why this happens so much on Meta HTs I don’t remember but the easiest way to deal with it, is to put some thick tape over it to protect it. That’s what I did and it’s been like this since 2021
