I’m going to spend 1-2 years cycling Central/South America and want to be able to go to the most remote places on the worst terrain. Ive been thinking that a hardtail MTB is the way to go (I very short so need an XS bike which is harder to come by).
Any thoughts on this bike?

If I were rolling for 2 years straight all over the place, especially off pavement, I’d buy something like the [trek 1120](https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/bikes/bikepacking-touring-bikes/1120/1120/p/33304/?colorCode=bluedark).
29+, full rigid, and I prefer my 1x but honestly a 2x might make more sense.
I’d also definitely utilize racks front and rear, and I’d probably put a Jones H bar (or similar) on it for more positions.
i dont see why it wouldnt work. is it the ideal bike – probably no. but given you will put it thru all kinds of terrain, there is no ideal bike.
i agree with u/flyonlewall on 2x, with as big cassette the derailleur can take. you will need gears.
