One of the major reasons country lanes have "national speed limit" signs is because of the rules associated with 30mph signage on single-carriageway roads. There are approximately 30 road-signs that must be illuminated on 30mph roads. 30mph signs also need to be repeated at regular intervals. The cost of doing this and laying on all of the required electrical supplies would be enormous. As someone who lives in the countryside with 60mph lanes in all directions from my front door my only real concerns are the Amazon/UPS/DPD/Evri etc etc drivers who see the 60mph as COMPULSORY!
When I first visited such English villages I was amazed and fascinated. I felt like in Hobbiton 🙂 The detail I noticed was indentation in the bush cut by car mirrors…
Yes I found out, driving a huge motor home. It’s terrible, plus the pot holes on every corner, every time there is an oncoming car! My shocks need replacing!
I hate the UK rat run lanes, I live in a smaller country and our country roads are normal 2 way width and importantly no bloody claustrophobic hedgerows. In England it's like "we have beautiful countryside but you peasants aren't allowed to see it".
This drives me nuts!! In Wales we have to do 20mph in built up areas and yet they have left these dangerous roads at 60mph! Just goes to show it’s all just a money making scam!
It's easy. Go any speed up to 60mph, keep an eye on passing places for when you encounter someone, and go at a speed where you can safely stop in half of the road distance that you can see is free ahead of you.
Whoever is closest to a pass (or doesn't have a trailer) gets to reverse to the passing place and prioritise people going uphill when it's very steep.
I've encountered a huge tractor carrying a large trailer going towards me in a lane like this on a 1 in 3 gradient. Everything was just fine.
It's high stake, so you'll find a lot of teamwork and courtesy in roads like this because of the risks.
I believe it. I visited there last year and everyone drives their car like they either stole it, or they have a trunk full of moonshine with troopers chasing them.

I challenge you to cycle up meth hill in fron!
It's crazy Dan, you can do 60 on rural Welsh lanes, and you can do 20 on a decent two way roads in town, mad…..
Try driving at night above 30. It's very dangerous.
When you crash on these roads it's classed as knock for knock by the insurance companies 😅😮

Cycling past the hill fort there?
Sat nav still calculates your journey time based on a speed of 60mph, which is impossible.

When I drive, I usually don't meet anything, but I do drive carefully for; horses, tractors and walkers/cyclists. Keep it up king ❤❤❤
Dan, that lane has a pavement AND a kerb – both are such a rarity along those lanes!

Are you stupid,,60 speed limit doesn’t mean you have to do that speed you plum
60 is for overtaking stupid horse riders 😁😁🐴

60 mph!
The golden rule still applies: you must always be able to stop safely in the distance you can see to be clear.
