Hey guys, I've been trying to fix this for hours. The rim seems trued, and the wheel is centered in the frame with no brakes — all good there. But once I install the brakes, the tire starts rubbing on the spring side of the non-sprocket brake arm (I noticed a black trail from it).

The wheel looks aligned in the dropouts, but it still leans slightly toward the non-sprocket side. I’ve tried truing again but no luck and making the wheel go a little towards the sprocket side. At this point, I’m not sure if I should replace the hub or the whole wheel. Any advice? Get a new frame? lol 🙁 Thanks!!

Is it safe to ride like this? Is it the frame? (Hi Ten)

  1. Wheel needs dishing to the frame, I.e the rim is central to rear triangle, that’s likely why you can’t get it aligned right. The tyre is hopping hard, but since it’s cant see if it’s the rim or not, then equally the tyre needs sitting better on the rim, and the rim might need the hop truing out of it.

Loosen only the non sprocket side. Find a wrench or something to wedge between frame and tire. Move wheel back towards center using the wrench like a fulcrum. Retighten the loose side and good to go.

  3. Dude, it looks like your rim is warped, that’s normal, to unwarp it is a very annoying process of loosening and tightening spokes. I recommend taking it to a bicycle store and they’ll fix it. There is also a rougher way which consists of stepping on where it is misaligned, perhaps this will solve it, but it is better to take it to the store to have it aligned. If your rim really isn’t warped, it could be the tire, if it is the tire, there’s not much you can do other than change it, check the hub to see if its axle is straight, but I think it’s unlikely that it’s the tire in this case.
