  1. Looks like your freehub bearing is failing. This causes the cassette to not spin freely when you coast and sends the chain forward into slack. You *might* be able to service and fix it but I’m betting you’ll need new bearings.

    Your freehub body wants love. Possibly gunked up and needs to be cleaned and relubed, it could also require replacement or a failed bearing. It depends upon the type of hub you have.

    There used to be a thing called a FreeHub Buddy, an attachment that went on to a grease gun and sealed onto the cassette. Jam it on and start pumping.
