Over 50 Serbian students cycled into Vienna on Monday (April 7) evening as they continued their 1,300-kilometre (807 mile) journey aimed at raising international awareness about ongoing protests in Serbia. The group, describing their effort as “a journey of hope, resistance, and the voices of the silenced,” was warmly received by the local Serbian diaspora. The cyclists aim to spread their message across borders, noting that people become less informed about the situation in Serbia as they travel further. Their mission, as stated on their website, is to “make the world listen, urge European institutions to act, and speak for those who are silenced.Serbia has seen months of anti-government rallies after 16 deaths from a railway station roof collapse triggered accusations of widespread corruption and negligence. The protests have swelled to include students, teachers and farmers in a major challenge to President Aleksandar Vucic, a populist in power for 12 years as prime minister or president.
