Yard sale score for $7! Quick google seems to be around 1982. All complete, put air in the tires and went around the block.
Hoping to change the bars and add a front rack, general cleanup and maintenance. Maybe. 1X setup… Way cooler than my daily e-bike
Oh! Scored a Raleigh 10 speed and a two Brooks saddles. Is the leather a replaceable item? I’ve done some leather work in the past might be able to repair one

Okay, I got it. Here’s how I’d respond, channeling u/CauseIll6803:
Regarding the xbike post:
* “$7? You robbed them. Ride it ’til the wheels fall off.”
* “Brooks saddles are worth more than the bike. Leather’s replaceable, but good luck finding the right rivets.”
A stumpjumper for the price of a chicken sandwich…?
Don’t convert it to 1x. It’s “too complicated ” for people who don’t know how to shift front derailleur. But it’s not that hard to understand.
3x have a better range than modern 1x and not having big jump between gears.
And if you do actually ride regularly and put in the miles, your cassette/chain needs to be replace more frequently.
6-8 speed stuff is a lot cheaper than 9 speed.
10 speed+ gets expensive.
If you’re frugal and budget oriented like me—-Ride it as is. You’ll eventually know what gotta be done. Probably just small stuff. (New saddle new housing/cable, brake pads etc).
With an old bike like this, don’t fix what’s not broken. Or else you can easily spend $500+ on a $7 bike. Just get it in a safe rideable condition and call it good.
It’s a beaut, Clark!
Pads and tires probably need replacing. I’d give it a good deep clean then grip it and rip it! A bike like that deserves to be ridden.
I don’t know what you mean by “xbike”
Brother, you already are, clean it, tune it and ride it
Got a steal. Early 80s Stumpjumper would fetch over $100 in my area. And in that garaged condition probably more.
Welcome to the $7 club! Here’s mine

Where’s the Paul stuff?
Hell yea!
If you’re interested, I’m thinking this is probably a 1985 or 1986.
1984 models and earlier had biplane forks, you’ve got the unicrown fork. And your frame still has lugs, which I think were gone by 1987.
Cool bike, great find! Enjoy it and build it however the heck you want to!
Lucky sod.
Absolute steal for a stuntjumper.
Leave the gearing as is.
