I have decided to part ways with my old carbon racer. It was much loved with many miles on the clock, many mountains climbed and some races raced. I tried to sell it a year ago in NL but I got offers so low it I couldn't go through with it, it seems there's no market for these old racehorses. Shame, I was hoping I could get a little return on it while getting it a new home. I'm going to trying selling it again now and accept what the market says, I need the space.
What's your experiences with parting with great old bikes?

“Selling used bikes is always a kick in the teeth. Maybe donate it and take the tax writeoff, because you’ll probably get more that way.”
I miss most every bike I ever sold, some decades ago. But if you need the space that’s priority.
I sold my vintage Bianchi (original owner). I just had to pick a price and leave it on Craigslist until I got a buyer at at that price. I got several low-ball offers until someone finally stepped up. Even then they tried to short me when they came to get it, but I stuck to my guns. It’s just a matter of patience.
I only buy bikes, rarely sell them. Especially not ones I love. If there’s no room in the shed, then make it art and hang it over the fireplace.
Sell? I’m not familiar with this concept.
I’ve regretted selling a couple, but at the same time it’s whatever lol
Yeah nobody wants these old rim brake bikes anymore. Great deals for anyone on a tight budget though and rim brakes aren’t that bad if you live somewhere relatively flat and dont ride in the wet.
I sold my salsa casseroll during COVID. It had been my ride everywhere commuter for a number of years. I sold it pretty cheap but was happy to have the extra cash. I was also working on getting to a 1 bike stable and told myself that my Salsa Fargo Ti was my do everything bike.
This worked out for a few years but eventually I really wanted a cheap beater single speed and my casseroll would have fit the bill perfectly. I searched for a long time and ended up with another salsa but still regret it’s not my long loved golden casseroll.
Curious what your asking price was?
Never do it, it’s N+1 not N-1.
I have given away a few project bikes but the last one I sold was super cheap to a family member because he needed one. I’ve never sold a bike to the public.
Somtimes the parts are worth more than the whole(that’s what she said)
I sold a 2008 Tarmac SL2 a couple years ago for $600. I’m pretty sure it only got interest though because of its Dura Ace 7800 group set.
I don’t know anything about your frame, but if there is anything about it that makes it unique (e.g., can fit 32mm tires) I would recommend highlighting it when you try to sell it.
