I’m planning on heading out on an overnight bikepacking trip Friday and looking for some fresh fun routes! I’ve done all the Utah trips on Bikepacking.com, and looking for some of y’all’s personal favs! I’m particularly fond of the west desert, but not glued to the idea. I’m a slut for the grind, so length/elevation/terrain aren’t too much of a worry. Thanks in advance!!

I’m planning to do the White Rim trail (1 day) later this month. Driving from WA so it’s a long trip.

I’ve heard April is a good time for this due to weather. Does that sound right?

I’ve read that I can get the permit the day before on the website, or at the visitor center the same day.

I’ve read that sometimes there’s a problem with flooding – any idea how I can find out the current conditions?

    I love this!

I am curious about those bar end things, and those inboatd extensions👀
    What are they?

    Thanks 👍

Fellow west desert lover, but I have spent my time out there rock climbing and hiking around looking for rock, retired last year so plan on more rides out there soon.

I have several San Rafael loops that are different than the usual suspects, just redid one a week ago. It starts at the visitor kiosk up on the Green River Cutoff road, go east and turn down Buckhorn Wash, follow the road until you are almost to I70 turn off and down Black Dragon. I looked for a way across the river but tamarisk jungle blocks the way so you have to do 1.5 miles on I70 to the Highway 24 exit head north and make your way onto the Cottonwood wash road(several ways to go, including Miner’s Run an alright ST with some slick rock) that goes up the east side of the Reef(deep sand but I rode it on 2.6 tires), turn west on the GR cutoff and back to your car.

80 miles, 4500 feet of climbing, easy overnighter, all dirt/gravel except the 1.5 mile I70 section, tons of options for camping, Black Dragon is one of the best roads in the Swell for an MTB. On the weekend can be a lot of 4×4 traffic, BD is super popular.
