  1. Probably weight of being in the bike messed with derailer again, id recommended turning the wheel that puts tension on the derailer half a turn and see if that makes a difference

Does the mechanism on the shifter catch? Or does it just feel smooth / like it’s not doing anything when you press it?

Does the derailleur move at all when you use the shifter?

The shifter is probably gummed up. Remove the cable from the housing. If it’s corroded, replace the cable and the housing.
See if the shifter now works. If not, it’s gummed up. Take a hair dryer and heat up the mechanism after you remove the cover. Work the shifter back and forth. Spray w pbblaster.

  4. The inside of the shifter is probably gummed up. If you can identify the model of your shifter, and if it’s a shimano product, you can go to [si.shimano.com](http://si.shimano.com) and lookup service manuals and exploded diagrams of it. Typically in these rapid fire shifters, there is a pawl that gets gummed up and fails to catch. You’ll likely have to remove the plastic cover on the outside of the shifter to access the inner parts, apply tri-flow or something to loosen up the old grease, and use something small and thin, but sturdy to move the pawl in the shifer, I generally use an old spoke that has been cut in half and sharpened.

You got it fixed by a bike shop? Take it back and they will probably fix it again for free.
