Need some recommendations for new tires for an almost 20 year old mountain bike. See post for more details.

Hello, it seems as if the tires on my old school 26″ mountain bike are getting a bit old. A few tiny cracks seem to be forming and I would like to get some new tires before they go.

I am a little confused by some articles mentioning that old 26″ tires are not the same as recent 26″ tires, so I was hoping someone could point me to acceptable replacement tires that will fit.

I have had this bike for a long time. I’m 46 now, and I can’t really imagine getting another one, especially any of the 29″ bikes. I am a huge fan of the narrower handle bars and smaller wheel diameters and I am way nimbler than my (younger) buddies on the mountain.

I am just looking to keep this bike going without replacing parts unless they are broke.
