I’d start by pulling the derailleur cage “down” (up in the pic) to the normal position, it flips up when it’s not under tension.

You can untangle that while it’s on the bike, depending on exactly how short your attention span is. If you want to take a shortcut and it has a quick link (or you have a chain tool to drive out a pin), you can open the chain, fix it, and reconnect the chain. In the worst case scenario, sure cut it. But you’ll need a quick link to reconnect it.

In these images, the part of the chain that can be seen towards the bottom of the photo, should run at the top of the photo, does that make sense?

Like, the whole chain is inverted on the bike.

If you flip the bike over and try to put the wheel back in, it will make a lot more sense. This is totally a brain teaser.

Honestly I’m too impatient to untangle it. If you have chain link pliers, just unlink the chain, make sure to not lose the connecting pieces, untangle it, and put it back together. If you don’t, just do the shoelace trick.
