Avignon is one of the most popular destinations to visit in the heart of Provence in south France and there are many reasons why. The famous Palais des Papes is where the Pope once lived, the famous Pont d’Avignon which is the most famous unfinished bridge in the world. The small streets full of local products, arts and funky stores. And lets not forget Avignon is home to the biggest Theater festival in the world, with over 1,500 shows every July.
Getting here is easy as Avignon is connected to the A7 Highway that leads all the way up to Paris and Lyon and down to Marseille, Aix en Provence, nice and Cannes.
There are many bus tours here and the river rhone is one of the most popular places for river cruises to stop so visitors can go visit the amazing sights of Avignon.
Avignon is also super close to the Pont du Gard, which is the roman bridge that is found on the 5 euro bill. Super close to the famous cycling mountain of le Mont Ventoux and the surrounding lavender fields that are stereotypically a highlight in Provence.
Easily visited in a couple hours, Avignon is a small city with a concentrated core of very cool streets that have something interesting around every corner. The city is mostly flat, so walking around town is very easy even for those who need extra assistance to move around.
