Day 42. 65km (85405kms 8yrs)

I hardly wanted to leave Anne’s delightful little cottage, but leave I must. It was a hillier day ahead to Quimper, and I was taking a longer even hillier route to incorporate the village of Locronan recommended by host Seb and one of ‘Les Plus Beaux Villages de France’.

The morning’s ride wasn’t particularly notable, and under another low grey sky I was glad of the village to punctuate the otherwise uninteresting ride to Quimper. But on reaching the long stretch of sand at Pentrez the sun finally peeped out improving view and mood accordingly.

Each climb today tested my faith in the carbon belt, and I opted to walk some of the steepest gradients- of the high teens category. In Locronan I ate an apple pastry (the Kouign-amann didn’t look good here) amongst the day-tripping tourists before leaving town for Quimper.

And what a charming place Quimper is! An old centre of colourful half timbered houses and cobbled streets. After internet tasks were complete I explored the streets and cathedral a bit, taking my pics before heading over to Warm Showers host Yannick’s place. Together we had very good galettes of ham and cheese, and lemon and sugar. And to think I’d been worried about missing pancake day!
