Hi all,

I’ve got a giant advanced revolt 2024 and an ortlieb quick rack I bought for bike packing.

The rack mounts by clipping onto supports (pictured) you screw into the mount holes on the seat stays.

I just saw on another discussion on Reddit that these mount holes are intended for fenders.

Is using them to take the weight of a loaded rear rack a bad idea? Is there a way I can find out how what their max load bearing capabilities are? (Have messaged giant support but they may not get back in time)

Thankfully I haven’t really loaded it up fully since I’ve had it installed, but now concerned I am going to have to find something else to use and sell this rack

  1. If it’s for fenders yes it’s a bad idea to put a rack.

What were you expecting for an answer? It’s designed for a few.grams.and you intend to put 4-8kg on it. No bueno.

  2. They’re intended for fenders. The fact that there are just the one set and no upper rack mounts on the seat stays makes this pretty clear.

As for maximum load, I doubt Giant will tell you because they don’t want to deal with someone trying to sue them. It’s easier for them to say they’re not intended to bear any load than to say they’re limited to 5 or 10 kg or something like that. They also probably never tested them in a way that would give them an actual number.

Can you use them for a rack? Maybe. The quick rack does come with an option to just clamp to the seat post, so everything would physically fit. How much can you safely carry? Nobody knows, not even Giant. Use at your own risk.

  3. For anyone in future reading this:

I just got through to giant support on the phone and they said that the mounts are suitable for pannier racks.

I asked what load bearing capabilities they have and they weren’t able to confirm or show me anywhere it said in writing (manuals etc).

Will update when I receive a response from my email query
