Hey guys, a friend and I are Planung our first big trip and are currently training for this transalp route. We both are broke students so we want to keep it low moneywise. Has anybody recommendations for camping? We want to take a two person tent with us. (Gonna be hard on passo giorno.) We are germans so we already know that wild camping is forbidden but we saw the prices for hotels and campingspaces are too much for us. Is it possible to camp at farms? We would like to avoid hotels as much as possible.

We would deeply appreciate any advice from you guys. 🙏 (sorry for the bad english)

I use campspace to find camping spaces like that, I am not sure about how easy it is to just ask a local farmer directly in that region

  2. Park4night could help, its an app for caravans but i found quiet a few nice spots where you can pitch your tent. The other option are playground, i wouldn’t recommend to use your tent there but often you can find wooden pavillions where you can sleep.

  3. You can ask people/ farmers on the way. If your friendly they might let you stay.

If you don’t find anything, pitch up at dusk, and and pack up at dawn. Stay away from bigger settlements, don’t leave anything behind…..

There is also” warm showers:, “welcome to my garden” and I overlander.

  4. I have experience on asking farmers in that region. Around Sölden I once asked a farmer to pitch my tent in his garden and he let me sleep inside on his couch. Another farmer let me pitch my tent in his garden.

A lot of people in the north part of Italy speak (basic) German (based on my experience), so that will be a good thing for you.

Generally farmers will be your best option, since they have big gardens. Just ask them nicely and explain your situation. If it doesn’t work out you can always find a spot to pitch your tent when it’s getting dark. Make sure to leave no trace.

And also make sure to enjoy your trip and have a lot of fun!
