I'm about 170 cm tall and am currently riding a fixed gear with a 55 cm frame which I'm told is quite big for me. Because of this, my seat post has only about 3 inches exposed so that I could reach the pedals.
Eh, I’m 179cm or so and I ride an XL Histogram with about 30mm. It’s obviously too big for me (and I’m in the process of getting a frame that’s a size smaller), but I’ve ridden it for the past 6-7 years without issue. If you’re comfortable on it, cool. If you’re worried, get a bike fit done, if possible.

Depends on the frame. Every brands 55 is different. So long as you’re not over or under extending your legs you’re fine

Love the jokes but this looks like a perfect seat height for the frame size actually.
You should be able to put your heel on the pedal and just about stretch your leg without lifting yourself out of the seat.
The length of the frame is a different story but if you feel it rides nice then go for it.

With classic geometry (1:1 top tube-seatube) its normal. And usually on track bikes its common to use a bigger size.

Looks fine to me deputy, although 5’6″ isn’t the height I would normally put on a 55
I’ve always been told 3 inches is fine. It’s not about how much seatpost you’ve got extended, it’s what’s inside that counts.
I was told size doesn’t matter, it’s what you do with it!

I could ride 3 inches all day no problem. Once you start getting over 7 inches it starts to hurt after a while.
Whatever it takes to ride your bike! 🫵👍✌️
my GF seems to think that 3 inches is just enough, yeah
