Le premier temps fort de la saison 2025, c’était ce samedi ! Pour ce 116e Milano-Sanremo, la course s’est décantée dès la Cipressa, avec une première accélération de Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates XRG). Accélération dévastatrice puisque Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck) et Filippo Ganna (INEOS Grenadiers) ont été les seuls à pouvoir suivre. Après un Poggio exceptionnel, la victoire s’est jouée au sprint entre ces trois hommes et c’est finalement Mathieu van der Poel qui remporte une édition incroyable. Septième Monument pour le Néerlandais !

Interesting that Pogi couldn't hurt MVDP up the Cipressa. Probably needs to attack from the bottom, or possibly the hill before. But even the best have bad legs, and credit to MVDP and his 5min power.

Dummb gap Pog let open that cost him dearly…. also Ganna should have hit out when he caught but was undoubtedly fried. Nobody has the lungs and power…. and SUPER POP of Mathieu… you can't let him lead and jump first. Big man Ganna cannot let it slow down that much because. he's too big to jump and get it going up to speed like the others…. but the critical mistake was Pog to back off that much… van der Poel saw his gap and 300 meters, contrary to the commetary, is not a very long sprnt… its perfect because it's a bit early and 250 is what they may have expected.

MvdP has proven again as he did so many times that not Pogi but HE is the man to beat at Milan-San Remo and on similar coourses. I was really wondering why many pre race predictions were so pro Pogačar. And I think that it will be the same at Roubaix as long as they don't take a Philipsen to the line. As Pogi said himself – he cannot beat physics on flat courses.
