Clean drivetrain is essential. The rest not so much.

It will be fine if you are keeping all the moving components regularly lubed and dust free. I would still hose it down every now and then for a deeper inspection, you can see if there are any dings and chips that are hidden and it’s a good idea to keep things like the BB and headset clean as well. Just a garden hose and a few min to dry and lube is all you need.

Why are asking a question this terrible💩 most of a bike tune is just cleaning up all the crusty filth the owner is too lazy or snotty to touch. It absolutely does affect your bike. Dirty crusty bikes don’t work very well or last long

If you’re okay with an empty wallet for the rest of your life, then sure keep it that way.

It’s easier to keep the important parts clean if the whole bike is clean. Easier to inspect for damage if it is clean as well.

I used my hardtail for commuting 7 miles each way, over muddy footpaths across fields in the UK where it rains 362 days a year, for 3 years before I washed it. Kept the drivetrain and forks clean, but the frame only gets so muddy, then it falls off or gets washed off by the water spraying off the front wheel. Been the most reliable bike I’ve ever owned.
