I recently bought a used mountain bike and want to make sure it’s functioning at its best. I am new to cycling in general and on limited budget so trying to fix as much as I can by myself. When I pedal the chain strikes what looks like a metal guide by the pedal. It makes a grinding noise. How can I stop it and are there other things I should check on the bike since it is new to me?
Model is a Schwinn Mirada from the past 20 years according to the seller.
