Bradford’s town centre has been basking in warm, sunny weather, but beneath the bright skies, a troubling scene of anti-social behaviour is unfolding. The town, which should be thriving in the spring sunshine, is instead grappling with an increasing presence of drunks, drug users, and general disorder that is negatively impacting both residents and businesses alike.
Shops and local businesses in the heart of the city centre are seeing a significant drop in foot traffic, as patrons shy away from areas where aggressive begging, public intoxication, and drug use are becoming all too common. The streets, usually filled with people enjoying the weather, now seem overrun by individuals engaging in disruptive behaviour, including open drug use and intimidation of passers-by.
One local business owner, who asked to remain anonymous, shared their concerns: “It’s becoming impossible to run a business here. We’re seeing fewer customers come in, and those who do are often put off by the chaos outside. It’s hard to focus on growing a business when your daily challenge is trying to maintain some sort of safety and order around your shop.”
The situation is compounded by the fact that despite repeated calls for help, Bradford City Council appears to be doing little to address the growing problem.
