In February, I changed tires on my Marin Gestalt XR. The bike came with tubeless rims but I didn’t care to set them up until wearing through the oem tires.
Finally setup tubeless with 47mm x 700 Specialized Pathfinder Pros. The rims were taped from factory but it wasn’t a tubeless rim tape. There were no issues with the existing tape so I cleaned the rims well with isopropyl alcohol and taped over with my “tubeless tape.”
As a general contractor, I have lots of surplus supplies and Zip brand flashing tape is one I always keep on hand. I figured it would work well. 2 months and over 450 miles / 725km later, I’ve had no issues. These rims are also hookless.
The first ride with these was a serious gravel ride in Cherokee National Forest, riding some chunky gravel, fast descents, and peanut butter mud. Tires were flawless and had no issues with air. Overall, there has been lots more gravel, asphalt, and single track ridden on the setup. Not a hint of leakage and they hold their pressure well.
