Good day all. First post. I have been riding bikes since a kid with some time off here and there. Slowly getting back into it, and have made some marketplace purchases. One of them is the pictured 950 Singletrack. Paid $120. Has mostly DeoreXT components, and was in my size. Already changed the tires to some DTH 2.3, and gave it a good cleaning.
Things I’d like to change are the
1. Fork color(thinking black) paint it myself or take it to a body shop?
2. Stem to black. I’m thinking 0 degree rise with maybe a 40-50mm reach.
3. Would like the rise come to from the bars(looking for recommendations here, maybe Surly Sunrise)
4. Will also change brake housing color. Red, or something totally different for some contrast!?
Thanks yall! Happy riding!

I think your front tire is mounted backwards. Easy flip.
Check your rear. Not as easy to flip!
Nice bike 🙂
Great looking drivetrain. You could paint it yourself. Automotive spray paint and spray max 2k clear coat over top that. Should look great.
That’s a sweetheart. Big bikes from that era are hard to come by, and that’s one worth the investment.
I’ve had really good luck with rustoleum’s system. If you stay in the same brand, you can do wet-on-wet with most of its products (spray color over tacky primer and clear over tacky color). And I really recommend clear, even if it’s not catalyzed.
I think MX-style bars are right but I don’t know if I’d do zero rise on the stem. Opinion and all, but bikes from that low-stack era just seem to look better with a touch of rise in the stem. You could eliminate the stem spacers with a tiny bit of rise, too.
Good direction so far.
I initially thought this was the end product
Sweet bike.
1. If you pay a shop to strip and paint the fork, i would think it could be close to the price of a new fork.
2&3 I have a sunrise bar on one of my bikes and it works well with a 50mm stem. The bars are comfortable if you want a more upright position. You could look at Soma Dream risers too.
4. I would say just black or red. A contrast color would distract from that sweet frame.
Personally I like the blue fork
Red brake housings would pick up the red from the Trek logo, and would look good.
You could take it even further and paint the fork red?
