I am choosing between two or suspense. First is a 2007 extra large fuel EX9.

The next bike is a 2008 size large Trek Fuel EX5.5 both appeared to have modifications made, but it’s still serviceable.

I know that EX9 the higher components on paper, but the 9 has a different crank and fork then the original spec.

Does the year newer difference make a better bike out of the 5.5?

  1. It is generally not a good idea to buy a nearly 20 year old full suspension mountain bike. Getting rebuilt kits for the suspension may be difficult. The bikes often need a full overhaul by this point. Look for 29″ mountain bikes, hardtail if price is important.

If you are looking at the same lineup of bikes they often are similar year to year. Every 3-5 years bike companies do an overhaul of the model design. This will update things like frame geometry, use current standards (or create their own), introduce new features, update to the current group set, etc. If you are comparing bikes between one of these years there can be significant differences.
