Thought about this. Definitely trying. I hate cutting and taping the end. Of course only a perfect finish tape job is acceptable, but this removes that. Does the tape slip ?

  2. New thing to have an opinion about in the biking community just dropped

Ngl that tape looks good, but I can’t actually visualise the other way..

  3. I’ve never considered this. I’m definitely giving it a go when I next wrap my bars.

  4. I adopted that method years ago because I was dreadful at doing it “the right way.” Now my buddies tell me tape game is clean.

  5. The forward facing edge of the tape on the drops looks like it’s lifting up though. Definitely prefer starting from bar end and doing a figure 8 around the lever to stop the tape unraveling depending on your hand position.

  6. They are. You need good quality tape so you can really stretch it to prevent raised sharp edges. But yes, way better than having additional tape on the top.

Think of the weight savings from removing electrical tape 😆

Mechanics don’t do that because if you work on your bikes you have to unwrap less tape to get at the cables/hoses wrapped the other way. That said, it definitely looks nicer and is my go to for vintage bikes.

  8. Unpopular Opinion / Fabulous Results… just use an inner tube. One per side.
Righto – it’s heavier but lasts much longer than bar tape.
Ignore patches – adds to the charm of my long-distance adventure/touring drop-bar CX, thanks.

  9. You’ve ended up with the wrap going in the same direction in both the drops (top right to bottom left) rather than mirrored. Something has gone slightly askew when you were looping around the levers. Not going to make a huge difference functionally but this would drive my OCD brain mad.
