Planning a trip to the Cairngorms outer loop in May with a friend on a Croix de Fer. Trying to decide on the best bike for the route.
He’s a better bike handler on rough so trying to decide whether to bring my XC bike, which up to now has just been for the pub and short day trips.
Alternatively I could bring my gravel bike (Orro Terra) with 35mm tyres. Reading blogs about the route gravel bikers say 50mm tyres are required so I’d need to consider a new frameset or fork with a mullet setup.
Something like the Fairlight Secan looks great but a) is out of stock until Autumn and b) even with big tyres is still road geometry, so maybe XC is still more fun.
What would you do?

Outer loop is doable on a gravel bike, but you’ll have way more fun on the mtb! Lots of the gravel roads are kinda chunky!
