Going through the biking sub reddits are making me nervous, this is my first bike since I was 8.
My dad sold my bike for $40 when I was younger and I loved it so much but it’s lo my gone :(. I wanted to get a new bike now that I’m 21 and want to commute around. I visited a friend in North Carolina and had the best time ever riding bikes together all around so I decided to get one here.
Anyway, I bought one off the street from a guy given I couldn’t afford anything above $100. I don’t know if it was a good choice because a lot of people are slandering Huffy really bad and so now i’m very nervous that I made the wrong choice :(. I can’t return it and idk what to do.
I tried asking the community what bike brand is good and I didn’t get many direct responses but a holistic “just check them out” response. I am very anxious with decisions and I’m having buyers remorse AHHH.
I really just wanted a bike to just ride around parks and around upstate. I live in NY so everything is pretty flat. I’m an adult thought and idk if this bike is for teens and it’ll affect me.. please let me know what you think and any advice of what I should get.
thanks :,(

$100 bucks for a bike ain’t the end of the world. You could easily sell it again for that much in my city anyway.
Some people are such bike nerds and think you need top end everything to enjoy cycling but I personally enjoy being faster than $30000 vehicles with my $300 bike no issue in the city.
Looks like ur rear brakes are fucked up but with a lil knowledge you can easily replace the cable or pay a shop to do it cheap.
Often bike shops are super helpful too, they are typically hobbyists, not salesman, so they could give you some info if ur nice.
If you can’t get afford any better, you’ll be just fine with that. Learn a little about bike mechanics and do your best to maintain it a bit and when you get a chance to upgrade get a commuter in the 300-500 range. I personally started with a cheap schwin beach cruiser, didn’t last me forever, but it didn’t need to as I fell in love with biking again and upgraded to a giant escape 2 disc when I had the chance.
