I am thinking about purchasing a replacement thru axle for more secure rack mounting. Do those from OMM/Robert Axle play well with UDH? I'm not really imagining how the extended end of the longer replacement axle will fit through the UDH mount.

In the attached pic, the silver part is the end of my current axle. How would a longer axle that is wide enough for rack mounting fit through the hexagonal UDH hole?

I figure I must be missing something obvious, but I'm not finding anything on the company websites. Maybe an adapter that threads on to the end of a narrow thru axle tip?

  1. I’m not familiar with this brands but Tailfin has a universal thru axle that will fit and extends out far enough that the rack rests on those pegs. I have the system myself and it is comprehensive and upgradable enough I paid the extra money and didn’t look anywhere else.

  2. So, I can’t confirm this for UDH compatible OMM axles, but I have them on 2 bikes now, and they are both 2 parts.

There is the main axle part that functions as you would expect the axle to, you push it through the wheel starting on the non-drive side and it threads into your frame on the drive side. There is an extended end but it doesn’t go through your frame.

Once you have done that there is a ‘cap’ with the extended end on it, that threads into the axles from the drive side.

I just did a quick image search and found this that pictures all the parts: [https://oldmanmountain.com/de/produkt-schlagwort/175mm/?product_orderby=rating&product_count=12&product_view=list](https://oldmanmountain.com/de/produkt-schlagwort/175mm/?product_orderby=rating&product_count=12&product_view=list)

  3. Feels like it’s a question for OMM and Robert axle project.

What did they say when you wrote to them?
