I bought a trek fx2 gen 4 it’s advertised to have 9 speeds (1×9) but I got home and noticed the shifter says “shimano 10s” then looked down at the cassette to count how many gears there are and there are 10. My father has a 2023 or 2024 fx3 (1×10) and the gear set up is pretty much identical. It’s almost like they put the fx3 gearing on an fx2 gen 4 frame. Maybe they are using leftover fx3 parts to build the fx2 gen 4? Anybody else out there have this bike? Did it come with 1×9 or 1×10? Am I missing something?

  1. This is fairly common for a manufacturer to do. In fact, below all bikes on their website is the following statement: “Due to supply chain issues, compatible parts may be substituted at any time without notice”

  2. The 10 speed option is still a Cues level drivetrain. They subbed a better quality Deore level package on for one reason or another.

Yes, id say you got a free upgrade. Deore 10 speed is solid with a proven track record
