I live in student accommodation near finsbury park and was looking for a site/place to buy bikes for cheap or even second hand bikes? My budget is 100~299 pounds max. Any tips or advice for buying bikes would be appreciated!
Also how common is bike theft in London? I’m planning to get a new city/town bike to commute to my uni and dorms. The bike store told me the bike was 299, baskets for the back and front for 30 each, 60 for a helmet. They said they’ll give me a discount 5 pounds off for each item and 15 off for the bike if I bring a friend to buy a bike with me, is that a reasonable price?
It has gears and is just what I was looking for, but I’m new to London and I’m kinda paranoid I’m getting ripped off or something lol if you guys can give me some opinions that would be awesome and greatly appreciated!

Halfords tend to sell decent bikes at decent prices.
Bicycle theft is rampant. Don’t lock your bike up in public with anything other than a kryptonite d lock as a minimum, preferably orange or better or equivalent from other brands.
You probably could get more for your money 2nd hand on FB market place rather than buying new.
