Hi! First time I wrapped my handlebar with tape and I have a question. I didn’t wraps an 8 at the brake handles and I didn’t put a small bit of tape to cover the gap.
If I ride the bike in rainy conditions can rains and dirt get inside there and and destroy something?
Sorry for my bad English.

It’s an aesthetic and comfort thing. If you are OK living with it like that, carry on. Personally, I couldn’t bear to look at it!
there is usually a extra piece to cover this up! you place it there, and tape it up… BUT – it would not cause any issues with rain if it´s not there..
No, you’re fine. It’s mostly cosmetic.
Looks pretty good.. I would not worry about water, it will get in there from the top of the levers.
A lot of people start with a short strip of “cheater” tape, that they place in that exact spot, before doing the rest of the wrap.
The solution is to snip 3 inches off the end before you start and fill that in with ends that will tuck under the hoods before you wrap around the levers.
Option B is to go ride it. Nobody is going to judge you as you ride by.
Yeah it’s fine other than the looks. Don’t feel bad, despite doing it for years I’m not great at wrapping my bars. Usually use the extra bit of tape to cover that spot.
It’s not going to affect very much, yeah maybe some grit can get in there, but shouldn’t damage anything. However if it’s a new wrap job you can unwrap and redo it with that bit covered.
That’s how I do mine. Too lazy to put the tape around the back of the lever. It’s totally fine.
Usually the bar comes to two small pieces that you wrap one piece around so that doesn’t show or there’s other ways to wrap the bar with a nice tight figure so you don’t need to do that but it doesn’t look bad
no, thats fine, as other have said you can put tape under that bit before you tape but personally i dont like the bulge it makes especially with the thicker tapes. So i do the vast majority of my retapes like that unless asked to do otherwise
I never get my wrap correct on the first try.
Everyone’s already addressed the gap in the tape, but you also taped over the slot in your shifter body where the tab on the hood fits in.
See the little black rubber bit that’s sticking out just above the shifter clamp in your photo? That’s designed to fit inside the shifter. You may need to adjust your tape so that fits correctly.
I’m a blasphemer for sure, but I use black bar tape most of the time and don’t bother covering it up on my personal bikes. You’re fine. Do it better next time. It’s bound to cause an aneurysm in some poor velominatus.
Its fine. You just missed the little strip that covers the brifter mount. No big deal. Your yellow tape will be brown soon enough, and you’ll do it all over again.
