Adding electronic shifting to a vintage bike. Definitely an unusual and super niche product. Mechanical gears are much better IMO, but that was a fun thing to try!

L-Twoo has some good qualities. From what I hear you can get it to work on a cassette with any number of gears. At the end of the day, it’s just a motor moving a derailleur. The number of cogs and the amount it moves should all be programmable so it will work with anything. There isn’t really a technical reason that you should need to upgrade your entire groupset every time you add a new cog onto the cassette other than Shimano/SRAM wanting to sell you more stuff.
