I go on a bicycle and Merseyrail tour of various projects across three boroughs of the LIverpool City Region – LIverpool, Sefton and Wirral. These eight projects are either going ahead or in planning and each one is potentially game-changing – an often over-used phrase, but maybe it is appropriate in the case of some of these projects.

The humorous reference at 4:45 is to Shoeshine Johnny, a character in the spoof police series from the early 80s, Police Squad, who acts as an informant. I often feel I need someone like this to provide information.

On the AidanEyewitness channel I explore new construction, modern architecture, urban development and local identity in the Manchester and Liverpool city regions as well as connected cities further afield.

I want to highlight what’s good, weigh up the issues and in the comments, provide an opportunity for people to share their opinions, insights and insider information. I try to answer each comment asap, but please be patient if it takes longer.

  1. It's been three weeks since the last video – I had a few delays and technical glitches but I'm pleased to be able to post another video from the great Liverpool City Region. Many thanks in advance for your comments, which must be on topic and follow community guidelines, if possible with correct spelling & punctuation, but no worries if not! I appreciate every comment, but I can't always reply straight away..

  2. Very informative, thank you. Have you heard that the Friedkin Group, owners of Everton FC are looking to purchase Nelson Dock?

  3. Your content is great. I'm happy that you uploaded today i was expecting you to upload today 😅 I'm surprised i got it right that you uploaded today 😁🙂

  4. A terrible shame The Futurist was lost. If only retained as a facade with something else behind it, it would still have been eye-catching.

  5. It’s a good time to live in the city. I’ve lived in Liverpool for six years now and always felt that Manchester got more than its fair share of redevelopment and business opportunities, so it’s satisfying to see that Liverpool is seeing investment and interest in the area.

  6. Oh hell no, not Ian bloomin' Simpson. He – who has single handedly DESTROYED Manchester and turned it into Dubai-on-Irwell or Manchattan with his dozens of hideous identikit glass towers (starting with Beetham Hilton in 2005) all of which LOOK EXACTLY THE SAME in design and height (50-60 floors) and are so bloody boring. He's already managed to build more than 50 of them in Manchester alone – throwing them up like there's no tomorrow – and completely trashing the skyline with his hideous egocentric phallic towers. God help Liverpool if he comes this way. He can keep his godawful towers in Manc and stay away from our city! .

  7. Thanks for another great video. I wonder how the Lime Street development will age? It has a slight aura of the dystopian concrete jungle. I'm not a fan of pastiche architecture but I think the individual Victorian style facades may have been a better option here for longevity of impact. I think the art and it's reference to the past belies the apologist agenda in the final look. I can imagine it when grubby and grimy. I think new architecture can stand for itself as if to say "I'm here, I'm new and I'm better".

  8. It's a shame the Futurist was lost, but I have to admit I do like the façade of the new building. We don't know the extend of the deterioration of the old building. The end result is better than most redevelopments.

  9. Thanks for the excellent information…I’m now a 76yrs born’n’ bred Scouser…..I just love seeing Our Proud City evolving into an exciting future…I can only imagine what Liverpool will look like in say 50yrs time…( I don’t know though, I suppose 126yrs old might be the norm in 2075) ….😂👍🏻💙UTFTOFFEES!….( and we might’ve won the Premier league by then) 🙏🏻

  10. Everton have obviuosly built on the Bramley More Dock, they are now exploring purchasing Nelson Dock and wish to develop that as well, also land opposite or along from Bramley More so really is exciting times ahead for such a neglected part of the city

  11. I really can't buy this idea of this linear park in Birkenhead. How will they keep it from attracting alkies and drugies? IMHO this stretch would be ideal for a single track railway line offering a shuttle service from Rock Ferry to Conway Park, not stopping at Green Lane upper level, instead having a new stop built in the middle of this new development.

  12. Nice piece. Snappy editing which i like. Liverpool has some amazing classic architecture, but it has been left behind in its redevelopment. seemingly, all that is about to change.

  13. Who is going to Live .in such tall buildings ? Lets hope. There is No parking restrictions. And Cameras and thise ugly 5G towers anywhere.

  14. Everton FC wanting to buy and fill in Nelson Dock should be resisted at all costs. The city was stripped of its World Heritage Site status by UNESCO as Bramley Moore Dock in the World Heritage zone was filled in. Yes, Everton FC's stadium was one of the reasons for the World Heritage status being embarrassingly stripped from the city and even mentioned by UNESCO.
The amount of dock filling in Liverpool over the decades amounts to a large port. We are a maritime city, enough is enough. The city will look like waterless Birmingham next. Nelson Dock needs to exist to act as a buffer between the stadium/sewage works to encourage quality developments in the rest of Central Docks.

The stadium is too small as the new owners of Everton FC noted when securing the club a few months ago. They were considering halting construction, extending the west stand. The site is inadequate for such a large club, also with access only from one side – no kidding. That may improve with riverwall access. How it got planning permission? The mayor who proposed EFC move to the dock site is up in court for criminal corruption charges. All may be revealed.

The large redundant Garston gasworks site near Garston docks was waiting for a large stadium, with a 6-platform station nearby and amazing road access, and even an airport next door, but the site was ignored by the club. The new owners are considering investing in the city, maybe they should consider converting this new stadium at Bramley Moore Dock into a needed additional multi-hall philharmonic hall and cultural centre, used 365 days per year, which was mooted for the Central Docks about 15-20 years ago. The exterior of the stadium is quite attractive so no issue there. That will attract investment. Freidkin, the new owners, could build a suitably sized football stadium at the superior Garston site, with its superb transport access. Then we all benefit and the new owners as well. A wrong could be put right.

  15. Max 3ds studio used to model scrapers import into simcity, subways, underground , 6 lane avenues , flowing traffic junctions and flyovers . China is a simcity model in real time

  16. Not gamechanging. The kind of development needed to build quickly and properly as well as get rid of leftover ugliness and dereliction will take at least decade given our pace of work, probably much longer, if at all. Had for too long useless fat cat councils who seem only to care about student accommodation.

  17. As a scouser now living in sunny Spain I thoroughly enjoyed this vlog. I haven’t felt the need to visit the city for a number of years and very much doubt that I would recognise much of the city centre. I look forward to following your vlogs.
