We sit down with Tony Karklins, CEO of Time Bicycles. His recent purchase from the previous owners, Rossignol, has led to the development of new technologies, fresh collaborations and an expanded range of products starting to launch. In this in depth interview we learn about where Tony’s aspirations for the future lie, but also what traditions and cultures he wants to preserve.

Time bicycles are proudly made in Slovakia, we were given exclusive access to film the entire process. We will be releasing 3 videos from this trip. This one, The global launch of the new Scylon model, and a full depth tour of the entire Factory. It will take us a while to edit though, so please enjoy this in the meantime

  1. TIME bikes forever babyyyyyy! LOVE my ADH, very much considering buying the new Scylon and please Mr. CEO of TIME-do us all a favor and bring back one of the best endurance bikes ever-the Fluidity. Having a name like this in your hands and not using it is a shame, plain and simple.

BTW Is that new Scylon in white looking ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS or what?

  2. The geometry for the Skylon that.Time have published is interesting – super long wheelbase and very conservative reach and stack numbers for an aero bike. It’s almost an endurance aero bike!

  3. Why are the reach numbers so short and the wheel base so long? This is not modern race bike geometry. Disappointed about this.

  4. Nice video, as a french cyclist myself I get the impression Time has disapered from France. I hardle ever see them on the road, more Canyons Specialized Trek Pinarello Lapierre Look…

  5. Great video! This guy has exactly the same characteristics and ethos as the best principle investigators (lab leaders/researchers) of the cancer research labs/groups I worked with over the last 20 years. The real in depth knowledge, the understanding of how to motivate, enthuse and lead a high technology expert workforce. How innovation is key, but you must never take your eye of the founding principles and aims of the project, ‘team’ and final product. Excellent to watch. Makes me want to get back to research and that feeling of doing something absolutely worthwhile and exciting, but I suspect there will still be far too much politics for me in ‘cancer research’.
I may have to rekindle my Time affair. Last one I owned was a VXRS, a lovely bike. New Scylon soon I’m thinking 🙂

  6. As I said it before on your channel; time has to build a better stem handlebar solution. FSA is way too generic and at this point it’s just looks like outdated tech. Design is the number one reason time doesn’t get the respect that it deserves. I hope he can bring better designers to the team. I am sure he has great engineers on his team now he just needs some designers and Time will get back to where it belongs.

  7. "Making Carbon Bikes in the EU & usa is impossible….hold my beer" ???
Now let me see you mass produce affordable entry level carbon frames that can compete with the offerings from China and Taiwan.
I'll wait right here, with your "beer".

  8. Having watched this I’m now even more delighted with my Time framed bike built by Paul and the guys at Mapdec…….
I did a lot of research prior to finalising my choice and having spent time in Slovakia was very happy knowing that’s where the frame was being manufactured – my experience of working with Slovakians was second to none – so listening to the CEO talk about the values of his workers reinforces my feelings of having made the right choice – Time and Mapdec as businesses with the right approach in times when difficult choices are necessary are a great combination in my view – keep it up guys👍

  9. Time-Bikes look cool – but are in comparsion heavy as a rock.
They spare out the main advantage of carbon – the layering. From an Engineering-View this makes no sense.
    Can't compensate it with "ride-quality".

  10. This is brilliant, Paul. Sorry if I missed it but it seems you both have kinda not discussed one of the big questions: what is the timeline for the Scylon to hit the market?

  11. Enjoyed the interview and I've always been a Time fan. Unfortunately I don't see myself ever getting another as I'm simply not interested in disc brakes or integrated cables. I would love to have a brand new VXRS, but obviously they won't ever make another run…

  12. Great interview, and an interesting business plan. I do hope for their success! Although, I do find it ironic that he starts by saying, "We're French", and at 8:34, he says that after his acquisition, they moved the final assets from France to Slovakia. He then goes on to explain that the development and tech is based in Sweden, South America, the US and Slovakia, with nothing, and no employees left in France. So, while I get his marketing desires to "identify" as French, how can he claim to be "French" when NOTHING about the brand is coming from France, other than the history? Gotta love marketing! Or, maybe it's the marketing folks that has to love the buyers gullible enough to buy into the illusionary image they sell…

  13. I bought my ADH frame (black) last spring based on all the information and reviews you posted here on YT. I built the bike up (Dura-Ace, BBInfinite, Reserve wheels, Roval post and bars, etc.). One ride and I ordered another frame (in that amazing green) to build a twin for my wife. The frames are beautiful and light. People cannot go wrong by getting a Time bike or frame.

  14. It's not impossible, it's just expensive, especially if you are building in low volumes. Chinese and Taiwanese firms have scale, and can produce a reasonable product for a reasonable price. What I like about Time is they produce a good quality product at a reasonable price. Other manufacturers with big names, without naming those names, also produce a decent product but they sell at inflated prices because they benefit from a history of craftsmanship that no longer exists within their manufacturing process but, through marketing, they push out to consumers as integral to their brands. Time (and also Look) for me sit in a sweetspot of quality and value and I applaud them for not trying to gouge out the market for profit. Good bikes for sensible money. For the record, all thoughts are mine, I don't work for Time (but I'll take a frameset if there's one going spare 😊).
