between these two, i would go for the one you think looks better, you´re barely going to notice a difference riding either. if you can afford to spend a little extra, look for a hardtail with a 1x drivetrain (1 cog in the front, it´s a lot less complicated and the chain isn´t going to fall off as easily) and an air fork instead of a coil (lighter and works a lot better). scott has some nice entry-level hardtails for around 1k with the before mentioned specs, if you´re ok with buying from an online retailer try canyon, their value is hard to beat. i know that it´s almost double the price, but its going to be a way more enjoyable ride

  2. Hydraulic suspension and/or deore gears could be worth €100-150 more. But if you are on a really tight budget go with the Scott and you won’t need to upgrade the brakes at least.

Both could be upgraded later on. You will eventually want to move on from

    Coil suspension
    Entry level drive train
    Mechanical brakes (Trek bike only)

Try the sizes, if your height is between two sizes one brand might suit you much better than the other.
