After riding 1x for the past couple years I went back to 3x just for more nuance as I often times haul heavy stuff on or with my bike.

3x really is great if you can crack the code of setting up a front mech. It’s like 1x in the middle ring, but with an extra chainring either side for when you run out of gears. Better chainline, closer steps between gears, delightful

What is derailleur?

I got booted from the cycling sub for singing the 3x praises. It’s a hill I’ll die on.

1x = marketing.

Xbiking trends are cyclical lol. Once front derailleurs are the standard again, we’ll see people making posts like this about 1x. Personally I’m never putting a front derailleur on a bike again, but I’m all for everyone trying new setups and finding what’s fun for them!
