Hi! I have read some posts about play in freehub body and some of them say its ok, some of them say its not… so i upgraded to 1x on my bike and put on a larger cassette 11-51 and when i was trying it out i noticed the freehub body has some play (up and down)

I think i didnt notice it because i had a 11-36 cassette and on the smaller cogs its not really noticeable, but when on the bike and i start pedaling with the new cassette, i get a loud “ting” sound from the back, which i think is this.. is it something to worry about?

My friends bike doesnt have any play, but he also has a higher quality hub (sram, bike: Canyon Strive cf 7 2017)

There is no play in the axle, nor the cassette!

I cant find any label on my hub, bike is a:
Giant Trance 2 2015

  1. Is the hub new? If yes, I think you did not fixate the cassette right. If it is used, the bearings might be toast

  2. Can you pull the locking ring off the cassette and clean out the threads of both the locking ring and the freehub body?

From my own personal wrenching experience, you tend to get movement like that and a metal-on-metal banging on the rear when the locking ring has not reached the end of its travel and the cassette can move around.

If it’s that, then the fix is free.
