Downhill, beeezy. One degree grade up, no problem. 3 degrees, you’re walking, but a 5 degree incline has you questioning your life choices. This only works because there’s a canal trail designed for mules to pull boats up the canal.

Balance isn’t much worse than having a person in the bow who doesn’t know how to canoe. Tracks through the water better than without the weight in the front. Lots of sail area though which had me staying out of the wind.

Flat water, swift water shallow no problem. White water? Not sure exactly the outcome I was expecting.

But any shipwreck you can walk away from is a lesson learned. As long as you can self rescue you get at least partial credit. Once again, the ripstop space blanket saves the day. That patch worked way better than it had any business doing.

You weight was too high with the bike, also the cooler being off to one side doesnt help. Lastly the cheap casted canoes from hunting stores use predominantly flatter bottoms which reduces stability. 95% of half decent canoes could run those swifts with 0 problems.

  2. I don’t know who told you that. You can definitely sink a canoe. But you already know that now.

  3. Man this is so sick. Kudos for getting out there and having a genuine adventure.
