2. The strap holes are tight. So will they be fine with a regular straps (no cage)?
3. They do have a smooth profile, but that shouldn’t be an issue with straps, right?

These aren’t my favorite. Depending on the size and width of your foot, these are not ideal and can be slick in the rain.
They look great though.
If I’m going with straps, then I use a BMX style pedal, for more surface area.
I mainly ride SPD, though, and outside of period correct bikes or my beater I ride SPD a vast majority of the time.
MKS makes other, larger, pedals but they’re still small.

I have these on my daily. they are wonderful. I have a matching open-toe-cutter-offer-er metal clip top things with leather straps. I didn’t use velcro straps. My adidas 5/10s put up with this set up just fine. No complaints.

These are great if you are going for a classic style toe cage and leather straps.

You’re more likely looking for a “flat” pedal, more MTB or BMX style. The ones you’ve bought are primarily designed to be used with toe cages and straps hence the bolt holes on the front of pedal.
If I hear you right, this is style you should look for.

If you’re aiming for a regular straps setup, this is not for you. These are for toe cages, which use a slimmer strap for the cage, which you can see with that tiny hole on the side.
