This circular 30 mile route starts at Sherwood Pines in Nottinghamshire. It uses a mixture of gravel tracks, bridleways and small roads. The route takes in some fantastic places- Sherwood Forest and Clumber Park to name just a few. Make sure you take the short out and back deviation to see the Major Oak.The forests are absolutely stunning and it certainly opened my eyes to an area requiring further exploration.
If you struggle with a .gpx signal whilst trying to leave Sherwood Pines, just head for the road you came in on. At that point the signal should improve – mine certainly did.
If you see Robin, please say ‘`hi’ from me.

What a lovely ride, so open, flowing and you were blessed with spring sunshine. Did you do this ride mid-week, as there weren't many people around? £12 to park, the greedy ba..🤬ds..don't they know round there, it's meant to be the rich they're robbing! Brilliant post, as usual! Best comedy moment: When you were cycling by the pond, couldn't help notice your shadow, and you were pedaling like the clippers!😂 Instead of a bell, you should have blown a horn in Sherwood!😉 Take care Julie, &shout out to the editor!😊
The Komoot link is the 5 pits route Julie. Lovely ride as always. Off to the pines on Wednesday. Park at Vicar Water country park FREE
G’day Julie, a leisurely 50km on dirt roads and a sunny day to bring the wildlife out. It doesn’t get any better 😊
I went back to Sherwood Forest and Clipstone earlier this week on my gravel bike with some MTB pals, for the first time in almost 30yrs when I last raced XC mountain bike series there. I’d forgotten how nice it is and how much fun 😅. Trails much better surfaced than I recall, but you are right…great place and scenery, and nice change from the Peaks 👍
I am pondering going to Sherwood pines tomorrow. Haven't been out for about 6 months.
Great video Julie. Open country is great for blasting the miles but I have to say it's not the glorious hills and valleys of Derbyshire as tough as they can be. What were you expecting from me 😂?
It’s not free at Vicar Lane, if you park there it’s only right to pay for parking. It is free at Edwinstow Village hall though👍
Good to see you again Julie , the video is just the job as I'm off to Sherwood Pines for Glorious Gravel at the end of the month . At 71 people think I'm crazy for doing this stuff but it keeps me young at heart
Hi, Julie. Great ride as always, but I want to give a shout-out to whoever does the illustrations for your thumbnails. They are outstanding!
Free parking at Clumber park if a national trust member
Another great video. It’s been a couple of years since I’ve been over that way, look forward to getting there again soon.😊
Vicar Water, Clipstone – parking (near Rumbles Cafe) – voluntary £1 (or above) recommended. Short ride into Sherwood Pines / cycle route 6 or to Bilsthorpe/Southwell trail. Also, off island on Crown Farm Way, Forest Town Lat 53.150510, Lon -1.137768 – locals park there for free parking and along cycle route 6 into Sherwood Pines, or via Vicar Water to Kings Clipstone (Dog & Duck pub), Archway House, Sherwood Forest to Clumber Park.
There is free parking at the side of route 6 at Budby pumping station. Also, the old stone gate houses were Welbeck Estate, the vase majority is a very private estate.
Nice to see you out enjoying the sunshine Julie! I've used that area of Nottinghamshire/Clumber Park to do some long recovery road rides coming back from an injury, being that bit flatter than Belper and beyond, it makes for great training, and some of the road surfaces on the lanes in Notts are a lot better than Derbyshire. I agree with the parking – I'm all for giving back to the centres, but their prices have shot up, and I think it's now too much for a centre that isn't as good as somewhere like Cannock/Dalby! When I MTB at Sherwood Pines, I find a country lane a mile or so away to park at from the centre and pedal in. It could do with something like Tackroo at the chase, although have you been of late, you need a monster truck to get in the car park with the pot holes!😂
I often park at Friar Tuck Cafe at the gate into Clumber Park, there's space for about 6-8 cars and it's free.
All depends where you are coming from, but you can park in that village where you had your sarnie? It looked like Norton, I ride on the road past there & into Clumber twice a week.
Pretty much went straight past my house there as I live on the edge of Sherwood pines. You could park in Rufford abbey for £7/day or any of the roads about near the woods (edwinstowe etc) glad you enjoyed it. 👍
