Hi I founs this shogun trail breaker, I kinda like it! Looks on great condition and its super inexpensive, like <$40…Bottom bracket to top seat post 19”. I'm 5”10 so I think its a good fit. Not seen it yet. Whatcha think guys, a little project? Not done a bike before but I want to give it a go ◡̈ what would you do to this? 🙏

Any functional bike for less than $40 is a good deal in my book, this one looks pretty cool too
That bike is probably built as well or better than a Hard Rock or Stump Jumper from the same era. I’d gamble $40 on it. But I’d give it a light tune up and ride it a bit before I put a bunch of time and parts into it.
Shogun made good bikes, although this would have been the cheapest bike they sold. Stamped steel derailleur and plastic thumb shifters, this bike would be a step above a department store bike, but the cheapest bike in a bike shop.
Ride what you got. Fine tune the ergonomics and bike fit.
Upgrade parts when they break.
Perhaps some will say you should’ve started with a higher end bike so it makes sense to upgrade down the line.
The truth is, any diamond frame that fits well is gonna be efficient. And tyre, handlebars and seats will have a overwhelming influence on confort. The importance of Weight is overrated on leisure bikes
So just ride it and forget about it.

Pass. Low end parts, not worth it. Description you posted sounds like the frame is a combo of mild steel and cromo. If you were in need of basic transportation and had very little cash, sure, it would be worth $40.
