Here are some of my observations/thoughts commuting on a fixed gear for a year so far in DC:
1. I very rarely see fixed gear commuters, definitely less than 1%.
2. Riders who ride bikes that can coast typically ride far more recklessly than me. Being able to coast somehow makes these people reluctant to stop at lights and wait for cars/pedestrians. I think people are generally becoming more impatient these days.
3. 28mm’s are barely enough for these potholes. Thinking about getting a frame with 38+ tire clearance.
